For me Heritage wasn’t just a school. It was a place of comfort and discovery. Sheltered by the innocence of childhood and the protection of dedicated teachers, I could grow and become a successful student. When time and probability seemed to be against me, it was the love and support of Heritage that allowed me to beat the odds.
I was at Heritage from 2006-2014, starting at year 4 and graduating in year 12. I am currently studying a Bachelor in Health Science, specialising in natural medicine. However, my success doesn’t lie in my achievements academically, but rather, in the difficulties I overcame. That, was something that only Heritage (I’d even go as far as to say- only Heritage PERTH) could help me do.
The significant difference between Heritage and other schools is their attention to detail. At my previous school I was bullied a lot and struggled. Although that didn’t change much when I moved schools, the teachers didn’t just sweep me under the carpet. They persisted, they cared, and they pooled their time, effort and resources to make sure that I was getting the best out of my education and personal development. Slowly I gained confidence, and my academic performance improved.
No other school was prepared to ‘waste’ their time on a student with learning disorders and stress management issues. My previous school couldn’t even be bothered teaching me some times tables. Yet this school didn’t think twice to dedicate hours of painstaking tutoring through extension programs, during lunch breaks, even after school hours and between WACE exams they offered extra help. I’ve seen these wonderful teachers nearly break their backs for students- and the best part is: they love doing it. Although the small size of this school may be seen as a disadvantage, having the small intimate classes is the best way to learn.
Also at my previous school, any declaration of my faith was swiftly shut down and ridiculed. Being at Heritage allowed me to express my beliefs without fear. And lastly, the school’s ethos is based on Godly principles which helps generate a kind and united atmosphere amongst the kids, the teachers and staff of Heritage College.
I truly wouldn’t go to any other school.
