On Friday 31st July the Heritage College Soccer team, comprising of students from Years 4-6, participated in the Pro Football soccer tournament held at the Lynwood United Football Club in Parkwood.
The team had spent the second term honing their skills and positional play and there was much excitement as the day dawned, despite the damp start and soggy pitch.
The first game was played against a school called Oberthur. This was played in the rain and our team started slowly and tentatively as the nerves needed to settle. It was a very good team which we played who ended up making it to the finals. The final score line was 0-6. Despite the defeat the team tried to keep their heads up and maintain their energy levels.
The next game was against the Australian Islamic College. This was a tightly fought game with us losing 0-1. The play was much better with lots of energy, good pass and more confidence from our players.
The third game was against Woodbridge which again was a beautiful game to watch with Heritage going down narrowly 1-2. Judah scored our first goal of the tournament much to the delight of his team mates.
The last game was against Gywnne Park and this resulted in a 2-0 victory to Heritage. This was most pleasing as the whole day had seen an upward curve in their performances so this was most rewarding.
As the confidence of the players grew, so did their play. There was a good spirit amongst the players with some good sportsmanship shown.
It was also really nice to see the group of parents who came and showed their support for our school as we attempt to increase our participation in interschool events. It was a successful morning with much fun and learning so it was a most worthwhile experience.
